Sep 29, 2019

What a weekend it was for the BMC-Vifit Pro Triathlon Team. On the back of their recent performances at the IM70.3 World Championship both Emma Pallant and Chelsea Sodaro were at the starting line on Sunday in IM70.3 Portugal and IM70.3 Augusta respectively. Oh and did they deliver. Both athletes put together blistering performances to secure two fantastic victories.

Emma Pallant wins IM70.3 Cascais in Portugal

Emma Pallant had an excellent start in Portugal, exiting the water in 2nd place, 45" down from the lead. After a blistering transition Pallant brought the deficit down to 7" and immediately took over the lead in the opening stages of the bike. At the 25K mark Emma Pallant had taken a firm grip on the lead and had built up and advantage of 2'21 on her first chaser. The BMC-Vifit athlete was flying and continued to extend her advantage. Emma had opened up a gap of 5'15 at the 75K mark and managed to control her lead in the final stages of the bike leg. Once on the run there was no stopping Emma Pallant securing her 4th half distance victory of the season. The British athlete was well in control and gradually further extended her lead. Halfway Pallant had build up a 8' bonus on her first rival. After another outstanding half marathon (1:20:29) Pallant crossed the finish line in a winning time of 4:18:21. Anna Noguera (ESP; 4:27:52) finished second with Anna-Lena Pohl (GER; 4:36:41) taking the final podium spot. Afterwards a very happy Emma Pallant reflected on her performance: "I felt strong and controlled all day long. I am really happy. It was such an amazing course and the support was incredible. I am very pleased with my shape at the moment and look forward to IM70.3 Lanzarote next week."

Chelsea Sodaro wins IM70.3 Augusta

Only moments after the fantastic victory of Emma Pallant in Portugal, BMC-Vifit team mate Chelsea Sodaro started her race in Augusta. Chelsea had an excellent swim, exiting the water in 3rd place. In the early part on the bike Sodaro pushed hard and closed the gap to the front of the race. At the 37k mark Sodaro was co-leader, with an advantage of 2'30 on 3rd place. The leading pair continued to ride strong and kept their advantage throughout the 90K bike leg. Once on the run the BMC-Vifit athlete immediately opened up a gap in the opening kilometers. 2K in and Chelsea had built up a bonus of 1' on second and 1'45 on 3rd. Sodaro was on fire and continued to extend her advantage to 3'35 at the 13K mark. After an outstanding performance Sodaro crossed the finish line in a winning time of 4:07:36. Compatriot Sarah Piampiano (USA; 4:12:18) finished second, whilst Lauren Barnett (USA; 4:18:45) claimed third. Afterwards the BMC-Vifit athlete looked back at her race: "I’m really proud of my performance today. I definitely had a bit of a come down after Nice, so I think that today’s race is a testament to my incredible team and the fitness we’ve built this year. It’s always an honor to rep the team kit and it gave me a lot of strength today. I feel that I had a complete performance across swim, bike, run in really hot and tough conditions. The cherry on top was racing with my training partner Sarah Piampiano."
