First MTB World Cup Win for Filippo Colombo
May 18, 2019
The U23 Swiss Champion took his first World Cup win today in Albstadt, Germany.
The course in Abstadt might not be Colombo's favorite but it will forever remain the place where the Ticinese rider won his first ever round of the UCI MTB World Cup. Starting with number 7, Colombo had a good start and a very solid race. Attacking and controlling attacks at the forefront, he saw the leading group go from nine to two riders at the beginning of the last lap.
"I attacked in the first uphill of the course and got a little gap. French rider Antoine Philippe only could hold my pace and I battled to enter the last downhill in first position. I knew I had an advantage in the downhill with my Fourstroke; I was faster than everyone else and could make it to the finish. I am super happy!"
With his win, Colombo is also bringing the first U23 World Cup win to the BMC MTB Racing Team and the first victory at this level for the new BMC Fourstroke.
The U23 rider will start the next World Cup in Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic with the number 1 plate and the World Cup leader jersey on his shoulders.
